amt - an improved method for atmospheric 14co

AMT

This paper presents an improved methodology for measurements of atmospheric concentration of carbon-14-containing carbon monoxide (14 CO), as well as a 1-year dataset that demonstrates the methodology.Atmospheric 14 CO concentration measurements are useful for improving the understanding of spatial and temporal variability of hydroxyl radical concentrations.

Few 14 C calibration data that directly sample the atmospheric 14 C reservoir are available beyond the end of the dendro-dated master tree ring record, which presently extends to 12.6 kyr BP calendar ( Reimer et al., 2009 ).

Newcomen atmospheric engine

Towards the close of its career, the atmospheric engine was much improved in its mechanical details and its proportions by John Smeaton, who built many large engines of this type during the 1770s. The urgent need for an engine to give rotary motion was making itself felt and this was done with limited success by Wasborough and Pickard using a Newcomen engine to drive a flywheel through a crank.

Estimating US fossil fuel CO2 emissions from

The vast majority of the world's nations have pledged to reduce emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases and to track and report emissions using accounting methods based on economic statistics and emissions factors. Here, we present an independent method of emissions monitoring based directly on atmospheric observations and the strong fossil fuel CO2 detection capability afforded by

Challenges associated with the atmospheric monitoring

2016/5/20In recent years, OP-FTIR spectrometry has been successfully used to monitor hazardous air pollutants, greenhouse gases and other emission products. This ground-based remote sensing method has proven itself to be a flexible long-path technique for the characterization of large atmospheric volumes, enabling simultaneous detection of various volatile atmospheric compounds relevant for

Peroxy radicals play important roles in the atmospheric oxidation of organic compounds and the formation of ozone and secondary organic aerosol. There are few peroxy radical measurement techniques; the most common, chemical amplification using CO and NO, requires the use of toxic reagents, and its calibration factor is very sensitive to relative humidity. We present a new method for

A Spherical Micro Satellite Design and Detection Method

A spherical microsatellite, aimed at technology verification of upper atmospheric density detection and precision orbit determination in low Earth orbit (LEO), has been developed by Tsinghua University and is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2019. In order to reduce the influence of other nonconservative forces, the area-to-mass ratio of the satellite was designed to ensure that the

Tropical tropospheric ozone column retrieval for GOME

The CCD method can only be applied in the tropics where the assumption of a zonally invariant stratospheric column is valid. An improved CCD method has been developed by Valks et al. (2003) that is based on total ozone and cloud mea-surements from

A Complete Terrestrial Radiocarbon Record for 11.2 to

Radiocarbon (14C) provides a way to date material that contains carbon with an age up to ~50,000 years and is also an important tracer of the global carbon cycle. However, the lack of a comprehensive record reflecting atmospheric 14C prior to 12.5 thousand years before the present (kyr B.P.) has limited the application of radiocarbon dating of samples from the Last Glacial period. Here, we

A new extraction technique and production rate

Our improved method has four distinct advantages over other extraction methods: (1) we can identify and quantitatively eliminate atmospheric/organic 14 C contamination; (2) we can identify the in situ 14 C component unambiguously without assumptions of 14 14
